Deciding on a Continuum of Equivalent Alternatives Engaging Uncertainty through Behavior Patterning

چکیده
A psychology experiment examining decision-making on a continuum of subjectively equivalent alternatives (directions) revealed that subjects follow common pattern, giving preference to just few directions over all others. When restricted experimental settings made the pattern unfeasible, demonstrated no choice preferences. In latter case, observed distribution choices by group was close normal. We conclude abundance may reduce individual variability choices, and vice versa. Choice overload paradoxically results in behavior patterning eventually facilitates decision predictability, while restricting range available options fosters choice, reflected almost random across group.

Controlling Growth Cone Behavior through Substrate Patterning
Throughout the process of development, billions of neuronal axons are responsible for navigating through the nervous system and synapsing onto their appropriate targets. To establish their individual paths, neurons are guided by a complex and dynamic map of biochemical, topographic, and mechanical signals. At the tip of each neurite lies the growth cone – a dynamic structure responsible for int...

15 صفحه اولEquivalent-Continuum Modeling of Nano-Structured Materials
A method has been proposed for developing structure-property relationships of nano-structured materials. This method serves as a link between computational chemistry and solid mechanics by substituting discrete molecular structures with equivalent-continuum models. It has been shown that this substitution may be accomplished by equating the molecular potential energy of a nano-structured materi...

Let 8 denote the real line. If TQ& and r £ 8 , we set {t+r: / £ J H } = r [ r ] . (BM) Let S C S , 2"C8, S be at most enumerable and T be of measure zero. Then 8 contains a subset R such that 8— Ri...
متن کاملHebbian learning for deciding optimally among many alternatives (almost)
Reward-maximizing performance and neurally plausible mechanisms for achieving it have been completely characterized for a general class of two-alternative decision making tasks, and data suggest that humans can implement the optimal procedure. A greater number of alternatives complicates the analysis, but here too, analytical approximations to optimality that are physically and psychologically ...
